 Celebrity Fish Restaurant

Peter Rosignoli opened his popular restaurant in Chelsea over 40 years ago and he's just as fussy about the quality of food now as he was then.

“Top quality is what counts,” he insists, "which is why I always try to buy fresh fish ordered direct, and wild rather than farmed.” This is why fish here comes from various regions: Haddock and halibut arrives from Aberdeen; mackerel, calamari and mussels, from the South Coast, and cod, skate and lemon sole, from Cornwall. He also ensures that wild salmon is only bought between May and September, when it is in season.

Poissonnerie is particularly famous for its diverse varieties of oysters, which may be ordered as six, nine or twelve. Amazingly, some 1000 are sold every week!

Always family owned and managed, the restaurant runs its own retail fish shop next door. Called La Maree, the shop offers superb choices of home-made fish saucesand fish soups like bouillabaisse (a trademark dish in the restaurant itself) in addition to fish and seafood - a god send for dinner parties at home.

Despite its fashionable location and excellent reputation, Poissonnerie prices remain surprisingly reasonable. A two course, fixed-price lunch menu, for example, is just £19, and should you not want a full portion from the extensive a la carte menu, you can order a half-size.

The menu features some meat and pasta dishes in addition to the countless types of fish dishes and private parties are catered for in a separate room holding 20.
